Recruitment Engagement Types

Retained Permanent Recruitment

Under retained recruitment conditions, Frontier Recruitment acts as a fully 'outsourced' recruitment arm of your organisation and conducts a recruitment process on your behalf.  The recruitment process is tailored to meet your organisation's specific needs, through detailed consultation and constant communication with you, the client.

With a retained assignment, the client generally pays one-third of the fee at commencement of the assignment; one-third upon delivery of a short list; and the balance upon placement of the candidate.  In this way, you, as the client, are paying for a ‘service’ in recognition of the time and materials that are expended in conducting the assignment.

Many organisations are inclined to engage several recruitment agencies on a contingent basis, rather than a single agency on a retained basis – in this situation, a placement fee is only paid if and when a suitable candidate is found.  This method is not a reliable way to source employees, as recruitment agencies engaged on a non-exclusive contingent basis generally do not apportion the necessary resources and energy to the assignment, in the knowledge that other agencies are working on the same vacancy and that the chances of obtaining a fee are reduced.

Retaining a single agency on an exclusive basis enables the client to hold the agency accountable for the recruitment process.  If multiple agencies are engaged, then control and accountability are lost, and the chances of finding a suitable candidate are reduced significantly.  Further justification for exclusive engagements can be found in this article – ‘Why Engage Us Exclusively?’

At Frontier Recruitment, two senior account managers are designated to all retained assignments that we undertake.  The recruitment process that we use is rigorous and akin to a 'project management' methodology.  A detailed search is conducted to find candidates, who are then subjected to a comprehensive screening and interview process.  Once a short list is determined, Frontier Recruitment will work closely with you to arrange interviews, undertake reference checks and to broker job offers.

Frontier Recruitment produces a detailed written proposal for all retained recruitment assignments.  The proposal contains an agreement which needs to be signed by the client before we can proceed.

This service attracts a variable fee from 15-25% depending on the nature of the assignment.  Typically it is harder to find senior executive personnel and fees are generally higher for these types of assignments.  The placement is guaranteed for three months.  That is, if the candidate leaves the position within the three month period, then Frontier Recruitment will find a replacement free of charge.

Contingent Permanent Recruitment

When engaged on a ‘contingent’ basis, a recruitment company only receives a fee upon successful placement of a candidate into a vacancy.  The payment is ‘contingent’ upon a candidate being sourced.  This method of engagement is quite commonly used in the recruitment industry and serves to minimize your financial risk should a suitable candidate not be found.

Frontier Recruitment is happy to operate on a contingent basis, although normally only in an exclusive arrangement (ie. No other recruitment agencies are engaged in competition, at least for a set period of time).

There are good reasons to engage us in this way and they are outlined in this separate article – ‘Why Engage Us Exclusively?’

Whilst our recruitment methodology for contingent recruitment is rigorous, contingent recruitment assignments are not conducted to the same level of detail as retained permanent recruitment assignments.  We recommend that you consider this an option for your vacancy also.

Contract Recruitment

Frontier Recruitment employs a large group of contractors, who work in government and in the private sector in Canberra and interstate.

As your contracted service provider, we charge your organisation a single hourly rate for the individual’s services.  As the employer, we look after the contractor’s payrolling, leave provisions, taxes, superannuation, insurances and other fees.  This provides your organisation with a cost-effective and administratively-efficient solution to your short-term personnel needs.

Through its history, Frontier Recruitment has worked closely with the Australian Federal Government to provide quality contract and non-ongoing personnel through various panel arrangements.  We are currently represented on more than twenty government standing offer panels.

We are dedicated to serving the public sector at all levels.  Our recruitment consultants understand the unique Canberra employment market and are experienced in working with the government sector.

Preferred Supplier Agreement

In the course of our recruiting activities, our consultants regularly come across candidates who we believe would be a good fit for particular organisations.  Where possible, we seek to enter into an agreement with these organisations so that we can refer the details of quality candidates to them on an ad-hoc basis.

Upon receipt of the candidate's details, the organisation matches the individual against existing vacancies or project requirements and, if the candidate is of interest, Frontier Recruitment arranges interviews and acts as the broker in any subsequent employment negotiations.

Frontier Recruitment has preferred supplier agreements with a host of private sector companies and regular refers quality candidates to these organisations through direct ‘reverse marketing’ or via our Hot Candidates email.
